Canada's World Cup preparations have hit a snag as defender Alphonso Davies has been ruled out of upcoming friendlies against Iceland and Tunisia. Head coach Jesse Marsch confirmed the injury, stating Davies suffered a hamstring strain during Bayern Munich's Champions League match.

The 25-year-old defender had only recently returned to play in December after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament tear sustained in March 2025.

Davies' absence is a significant blow for Canada as they face Iceland on March 28 and Tunisia on April 1, key matches in their buildup to co-hosting the World Cup. Marsch indicated that Davies would likely be sidelined for two to three weeks, with plans to keep him in Munich to ensure a full recovery. "We just need to take the appropriate steps to make sure that we don't have anymore setbacks," Marsch told TSN Sports.
