Iraq’s national football team will fly by private plane to Monterrey, Mexico, for their 2026 World Cup intercontinental play-off match on 31 March. The journey comes amid regional airspace closures triggered by escalating conflict between the U.S., Israel, and Iran since 28 February.
Iraq FA President Adnan Dirjal confirmed the team will depart at the end of the week after Fifa, under President Gianni Infantino, coordinated with Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom to assist logistical challenges. The winner will secure a spot in the 2026 tournament.
