Jose Mourinho has hinted at a potential return to Real Madrid, saying his agent is in contact with the club. The 63-year-old Benfica manager made the comments on Saturday, adding that he expects to make a decision on his future by next week.
Mourinho led Benfica to an unbeaten season in Portugal's Primeira Liga, finishing third. This has made him the leading candidate to replace current Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa, according to media reports.
"My future should be decided this week," Mourinho told reporters. He confirmed Benfica has offered a contract renewal, but said there is no formal offer from Real Madrid.
Arbeloa, who faces Mourinho's potential return, praised the Portuguese manager as "number one" and said he would be happy to see him back at the club.
Mourinho previously coached Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, winning La Liga and the Copa del Rey. He is under contract with Benfica until June 2027.
