Soccer chiefs are nearing a decision on the location for this month's "Finalissima" clash between Spain and Argentina. London has emerged as the leading candidate, with doubts surrounding the original venue in Doha, Qatar.
The match, set for March 27, was initially planned for Lusail Stadium in Doha. However, geopolitical tensions have made Qatar's hosting increasingly unlikely. The Spanish FA (RFEF) is seeking a swift resolution to ensure the game serves as vital preparation for the upcoming World Cup.
While Wembley Stadium is unavailable, London possesses other suitable venues, positioning the English capital as the most probable alternative. Discussions are ongoing between European (UEFA) and South American (CONMEBOL) soccer bodies, along with the Spanish (RFEF) and Argentine (AFA) FAs.
Madrid was previously proposed but rejected by Argentina, who preferred a neutral venue. Morocco and Miami were also considered but faced scheduling conflicts or political considerations.
