In Rosario, Argentina, a massive 534-square-meter mural of Lionel Messi has been restored and inaugurated. The project required 300 litres of paint.

The artwork now includes three stars on the jersey badge, representing Argentina's three World Cup wins, and the word "Gracias!" at the top. The restoration was completed just in time for Messi's quarter-final match.

Messi, who became the tournament's all-time leading goalscorer, began his career at Rosario's Newell's Old Boys. One artist noted the mural celebrates a human who overcame humble beginnings.
