Liverpool manager Arne Slot stated that Saturday's 2-0 Premier League victory over Fulham has improved team morale following a series of defeats. He cautioned that this win is just the initial step in a critical week for the club.
Youngster Rio Ngumoha scored a brilliant opener, followed by a goal from Mohamed Salah, securing Liverpool's fifth-place standing. Slot expressed hope this performance will generate momentum for Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain.
The team had not secured a league win since late February and had suffered significant losses, including a 4-0 defeat to Manchester City and a 2-0 loss to PSG.
Slot acknowledged the improved mood but urged caution, emphasizing that one win does not solve all issues. He praised the Anfield atmosphere and requested similar support for the upcoming PSG match.
"This was a massive win not only for the league but looking forward to Tuesday," Slot told the BBC. "On Tuesday we need our fans. Anfield has shown many times that it can lift the team to another level, and we need that again."
Ngumoha, at 17, became Liverpool's youngest Premier League scorer at Anfield. Slot commended the teenager's performance and his ability to dominate one-on-one situations.
Mohamed Salah's goal in his first Anfield appearance since announcing his departure at season's end resonated with fans. Slot noted the importance of the goal for both Salah and the team's victory.
"For Mo to score a finish that he has done so many times, inside foot, far corner ... I'm happy he scored a vital goal for himself and the team," Slot said.
