Liverpool has secured Spanish winger Víctor Muñoz from CA Osasuna by activating his €40 million release clause. The 22-year-old will sign a six-year contract at Anfield, keeping him with the club until June 2032.
Real Madrid, which sold Muñoz to Osasuna in 2025, retained first refusal rights but chose not to exercise them. This decision allows Liverpool to acquire the player for approximately $46 million, paid in installments to maintain financial flexibility.
Sporting director Richard Hughes and Fenway Sports Group executive Michael Edwards orchestrated the move. By triggering the mandatory La Liga release clause, Liverpool avoided prolonged negotiations and outmaneuvered Newcastle United, who were widely expected to complete the signing.
Muñoz developed through Barcelona’s La Masia academy before joining Real Madrid and subsequently moving to Osasuna. He is now considered a key prospect for Spain’s 2026 World Cup squad. Liverpool views this acquisition as a strategic asset controlled through the peak years of his career.
