FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced on Thursday that demand for tickets to the 2026 World Cup has shattered records, with 500 million requests already logged for the expanded 48-team tournament set to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking at the FIFA Congress in Vancouver, Infantino highlighted the staggering scale: "We had 500 million ticket requests. In the last two World Cups together, we had 50 million. Here, 500 million."
He confirmed that FIFA has sold nearly all inventory released so far-roughly 90% of the global supply. The organization plans to continue releasing tickets in phases to manage demand and maximize revenue.
Ticketing has become a sensitive topic, with concerns over affordability and local access. Infantino acknowledged the range, stating, "There are expensive tickets, yes, but there are also affordable tickets."
