Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants have been eliminated from the Indian Premier League playoff race after losing to Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. Both teams now sit at the bottom of the 10-team standings with six points each from 11 matches.
Reigning champions RCB climbed to the top of the table with 14 points after a thrilling two-wicket victory over Mumbai in Raipur. Chasing 167, Bangalore’s top order faltered, but all-rounder Krunal Pandya anchored the chase with a composed 73 off 46 balls. The match went down to the final ball, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar hitting a six to seal the win and snap RCB’s two-match losing streak.
In the second match, Chennai Super Kings beat Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets. Lucknow had posted 203-8, powered by Urvil Patel’s blistering 23-ball 65, which tied the record for the fastest fifty in IPL history. However, CSK chased down the target to stay alive in the playoff race. Five-time champions CSK now sit fifth with 12 points.
