The Toronto Maple Leafs secured a 6-4 victory over the Anaheim Ducks, ending an eight-game slide. William Nylander scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period. The win, however, was overshadowed by an injury to captain Auston Matthews.
Matias Maccelli contributed a goal and two assists, while Matthew Knies added three assists and an empty-net goal. Joseph Woll made 36 saves for Toronto.
Matthews exited the game in the second period after a knee-on-knee hit from Ducks defenseman Radko Gudas. Gudas received a five-minute major and a game misconduct. Cutter Gauthier, Ian Moore, Pavel Mintyukov, and Alex Killorn scored for Anaheim. Lukas Dostal made 23 saves.
The Maple Leafs' victory marks their first home win since January 10th, ending a significant home losing streak. Despite the win, Toronto's playoff hopes remain slim. The Ducks continue to lead the Pacific Division.
