Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer stated that his team holds the advantage in their Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid following a 2-1 first-leg victory. Neuer cautioned, however, that Real, despite their current struggles, could be dangerous with their backs against the wall.
Bayern, who are also in the German Cup semi-finals and lead the Bundesliga by 12 points, host Real for the second leg. Real, out of the Copa del Rey and nine points behind Barcelona in La Liga, have limited opportunities for silverware this season. Neuer noted that teams in difficult periods can achieve great things.
Neuer highlighted Bayern's current strong form, including setting a new Bundesliga goal record with 105 goals for the season. "We are in a flow right now. We are still in all competitions and it's in our own hands," Neuer said. "We are sitting in the driver's seat."
Bayern could secure the league title this weekend and face Bayer Leverkusen in the German Cup semi-final. Neuer, acknowledging the narrow one-goal lead, emphasized the need for continued effort and confidence, despite past experiences of Real Madrid's ability to retaliate.
