Midfielder Assan Ouedraogo has been called up to Germany's World Cup squad replacing the injured Lennart Karl, fulfilling a childhood dream. Manager Julian Nagelsmann reached the RB Leipzig player on vacation in Marbella.

"I got the call from the national coach on Friday evening while on holiday," Ouedraogo stated. "When he told me I was now part of the squad, I needed a moment to take it in before packing my things straight away."

Ouedraogo has one previous appearance for Germany, scoring in a 6-0 win over Slovakia in November after substituting for an injured player.

"It's a huge honor and makes me very proud to represent Germany at the World Cup," he added. "A childhood dream has come true."

Germany begin Group E play June 14 in Houston against Curacao, followed by matches against Ivory Coast and Ecuador. The team last won the World Cup in 2014.
