New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced Thursday that the city, in partnership with the NYNJ Host Committee, has secured 1,000 affordable World Cup tickets for New York residents at $50 each. The cheapest resale ticket for a group stage match at MetLife Stadium currently tops $535.

Each ticket includes free bus transportation to and from the stadium. Council Member Yusef Salaam praised the effort, calling it "governing for the people." Tickets will be distributed via a lottery from May 25-29 and are non-transferable. The initiative covers the first seven matches at MetLife, leading up to the July 19 final.

Mamdani, a vocal critic of FIFA's pricing, said, "We want to ensure working-class New Yorkers have the opportunity to be part of it."
