Brazilian striker Neymar has indicated that his professional football career may conclude by the end of 2026. The 34-year-old forward returned to his boyhood club Santos in January 2025, significantly contributing to their survival in the Brazilian top flight with five goals in his last five matches.
However, Neymar's recent seasons have been plagued by injuries, casting doubt on his participation in the upcoming World Cup. "I don't know what will happen from now on, I don't know about next year," Neymar stated. "It may be that when December comes, I'll want to retire. I'm living year to year now."
While this year is crucial for Santos and the Brazilian national team, with World Cup preparations underway, Neymar's own fitness remains a primary concern. He has not played for the national team since October 2023, despite being Brazil's all-time leading scorer with 79 goals. Brazil's manager, Carlo Ancelotti, has emphasized that only fully fit players will be selected for the World Cup.
