Erling Haaland delivered a commanding performance as Norway defeated Iraq 4-1 in their Group I opener at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. This match marked Norway’s first World Cup appearance since 1998.

Haaland opened the scoring in the 29th minute with his first-ever tournament goal. Although Iraq’s Aymen Hussein responded briefly in the 39th minute, Haaland secured his brace just four minutes later to end the half 3-1.

Norway extended their lead in the second half through Leo Ostigard and an own goal by Hussein. Haaland earned FIFA Man of the Match honors, continuing a prolific run of 22 goals in his last 11 international appearances.

The victory places Norway level with France atop Group I. Their previous World Cup campaign in 1998 included a notable group-stage win over Brazil before a Round of 16 exit.
