MAINZ, Germany - Bayern Munich staged a remarkable second-half comeback to defeat Mainz 05 by a score of 4-3 on Saturday. After trailing by three goals at halftime, Bayern secured the win with crucial goals from substitutes Harry Kane and Michael Olise.
Mainz had taken an early lead with first-half goals from Dominik Kohr, Paul Nebel, and Sheraldo Becker. Bayern, who fielded a significantly altered starting lineup, failed to register a shot on target before the break.
Bayern's fortunes changed after coach Vincent Kompany introduced Kane and Olise at halftime. Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring for Bayern in the 53rd minute, followed by a goal from Olise 20 minutes later. Jamal Musiala equalized in the 81st minute, and league-leading scorer Harry Kane netted his 33rd goal of the season just two minutes later, completing the dramatic comeback and extending Bayern's winning streak to nine matches.
