Veteran center Phillip Danault has rediscovered his passion for hockey with the Montreal Canadiens, playing a pivotal role in their deep playoff run. After a difficult start with the Los Angeles Kings, where he managed zero goals and five assists in 30 games, Danault was traded back to Montreal in December. He quickly became essential to the team's grinding victory style.

In Game 1 of the Eastern Conference final, Danault scored a goal and added an assist, leading the Canadiens to a 6-2 victory over the top-seeded Carolina Hurricanes. His linemate, Alexandre Texier, also benefited from Danault's playmaking. The Canadiens' top line of Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Juraj Slafkovsky finally broke through at 5-on-5, contributing two goals.

Danault's veteran presence and defensive reliability have been crucial for the youngest team to reach the third round since 1993. Head coach Martin St. Louis emphasized Danault's role in penalty killing, faceoffs, and being hard to play against.

"It's in my DNA," Danault said. "I love the energy, the fans... it means everything to me."
