Mumbai Indians pulled off their highest successful IPL run chase on Monday, defeating Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets at Wankhede Stadium.
Rohit Sharma, back after missing five matches with a hamstring injury, smacked 84 off 44 balls, including six fours and seven sixes. Fellow opener Ryan Rickelton blazed 83 off just 32 deliveries, setting the tone for an emphatic chase of 228.
Lucknow posted 228 for five after being put into bat. Nicholas Pooran hammered 63 off 21 balls, with support from Mitchell Marsh (44) and Himmat Singh (40).
Mumbai's reply never faltered. After Rickelton and Rohit fell to Mohsin Khan and M Siddharth respectively, Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav held the innings together. Naman Dhir and Will Jacks finished the job with eight balls remaining.
Suryakumar captained in place of regular skipper Hardik Pandya, who was ruled out due to illness.
Rickelton, named Player of the Match, praised his opening partner: "One of Mumbai's greatest, one of India's greatest. I have enjoyed batting with him."
The win leaves Mumbai ninth in the 10-team standings with six points. Lucknow remains at the bottom, suffering a sixth straight loss.
