Ronnie O'Sullivan made snooker history Friday at the World Open, scoring a record-breaking 153 break in his quarter-final match against Ryan Day.

The seven-time world champion capitalized on a free ball after Day failed to strike the cue ball legally. O'Sullivan potted a green as an extra red, followed by a black, then cleared the table with 15 reds, 13 blacks, two pinks, and the remaining colors.

At 153, the break surpasses the traditional maximum of 147-and beats the previous professional record of 148 set by Jamie Burnett in 2004.

O'Sullivan, who has previously achieved 17 official 147 breaks, defeated Day 5-0 and advances to face Wu Yize in the semi-finals.

“It was a pretty cool moment, really happy to do it,” O’Sullivan said in a post on social media.
