San Francisco 49ers defensive end Bryce Huff announced Thursday he is retiring from the NFL at age 27 after six seasons. The Super Bowl champion leaves professional football to pursue ventures beyond the game.

Huff began his career as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets in 2020, where he recorded 17.5 sacks over four seasons. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024, winning a Super Bowl before joining the 49ers last offseason.

In a video posted to Instagram, Huff said football had been his life since age four. "I realized something - at 27, I'm capable of giving the world more than just football," he said.

He spent one season with San Francisco, tying for the team lead in sacks during the 2025 regular season. Though he went sackless in his final 10 games, teammates praised his leadership and discipline.

Huff revealed he’s now focusing on his lithium battery company, aimed at reducing fire risks in energy storage tech.
