Southampton have requested additional time to conduct an internal review after being accused of spying by fellow promotion contenders Middlesbrough.

The Saints face Middlesbrough at St Mary's on Tuesday in the second leg of the Championship playoff semi-final, following a 0-0 draw on Saturday. The winner will face Hull City at Wembley for a spot in the Premier League.

Southampton was charged by the English Football League on Friday after Middlesbrough reported unauthorized filming at their training ground ahead of the first leg.

While clubs typically have 14 days to respond, the EFL is pushing for an expedited independent disciplinary commission hearing.

Southampton CEO Phil Parsons stated the club is cooperating fully, saying: "Given the intensity of the fixture schedule... we have requested time to complete that process thoroughly and responsibly."

Manager Tonda Eckert declined to comment on the controversy, walking out of Saturday's press conference as reporters pressed for answers.
