South Africa has reached the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup for the first time in its history.

In a Group A match at Estadio Monterrey, Mexico, Thapelo Maseko scored the decisive goal to give the team a 1-0 victory over South Korea. Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams made a critical save in stoppage time to preserve the win.

This result eliminates South Korea and makes South Africa the first African nation to advance to the newly established Round of 32.
