Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo emphatically dismissed speculation about retirement following the team’s 67-63 Sweet 16 loss to UConn.
"Trying to win a national championship - plain and simple," Izzo told reporters when asked about his future.
The 71-year-old said he remains driven and plans to evaluate the roster through direct conversations with players.
"Tomorrow I'm going to the portal," he said. "The only difference is the portal at Michigan State is different than the portal at most places. I'm going right to my frickin' locker room."
Izzo highlighted a promising core of returning players and expressed confidence in the incoming recruiting class.
He has coached the Spartans since 1995, compiling a 764-310 record, including a 61-27 mark in the NCAA Tournament. This season, Michigan State finished 27-8.
"I'm the luckiest guy in the world," Izzo said. "I'll get to play on another Sunday. Hang around."
