The U.S. men's hockey team is heading to the Olympic gold medal game after a decisive 6-2 victory over Slovakia on Friday. They will face Canada in the championship showdown on Sunday.

Jack Hughes led the charge with two goals, showcasing a memorable individual effort on one. The U.S. controlled the game against a Slovakian team that had made an unexpected run.

This marks the first time in 16 years the U.S. men's hockey team has reached the gold medal match. The U.S. last won gold in men's hockey with the "Miracle on Ice" team in 1980, upsetting the Soviet Union.

Canada secured their place in the final by defeating Finland 3-2. Finland and Slovakia will compete for the bronze medal. Slovakia is aiming for their second hockey medal in history.

The U.S. earned their semifinal victory following a closer quarterfinal win against Sweden that required overtime. Key goals came from Dylan Larkin, Tage Thompson, Hughes, and Jack Eichel. Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has performed strongly, validating coach Mike Sullivan's decision to name him the starter.
