Virgil van Dijk remains hopeful that Mohamed Salah will play again for Liverpool before his anticipated Anfield departure. Salah left the recent match against Crystal Palace in tears due to an injury, sparking concerns his celebrated career on Merseyside might have ended prematurely.
The Liverpool captain, Van Dijk, believes the 33-year-old's recovery abilities could allow him to feature in upcoming home games. "I hope so," Van Dijk stated, "There will be a medical assessment and then that will determine what the issue is going to be. I know he is doing everything in his power to be back on the pitch as soon as possible."
With only four matches remaining in the season and Salah's contract expiring in June, the possibility of him missing a stadium farewell is a significant concern for the squad. Van Dijk acknowledged the emotional toll on his teammate during his exit.
Salah's impact at Anfield is already cemented, with 257 goals in 440 appearances making him the club's third-highest scorer. Regardless of his fitness, Van Dijk is confident supporters will honor the three-time PFA Player of the Year for his decorated nine-year tenure.
"He will get the send-off regardless," Van Dijk added. "Knowing Mo he is a quick healer with the right people around us and let’s see."
Liverpool's victory over Palace also marked progress toward securing Champions League qualification. The win elevated the Reds to fourth in the Premier League standings. Van Dijk also praised teammates, noting the importance of goals for strikers and expressing confidence in their contributions.
