A new atmosphere has emerged in the Vancouver Canucks locker room as the season draws to a close. Despite being at the bottom of the NHL standings after a challenging campaign, a sense of lightness has taken hold. Rookie defenceman Zeev Buium noted a significant change, stating, “We’ve really come together off the ice and got to know each other and care about each other.” This has translated onto the ice, particularly in teammates supporting one another. Veteran Filip Hronek notably defended Buium after a tough hit, challenging an opponent to a fight. Buium expressed gratitude, saying, "And then you’re willing to go out there and block anything, block a shot with any part of your body. All of us are really starting to come together." The Canucks secured their third consecutive victory, a 4-3 overtime win against the Los Angeles Kings, marking only the second time this season they've achieved three straight wins. Head coach Adam Foote emphasized the team's recent success is not a fluke, attributing it to playing as a team and sticking to the game plan. He credited veterans like Hronek, Marcus Pettersson, Brock Boeser, and Teddy Blueger for transforming the team's mindset post-trade deadline, stating, “They decided ‘Hey, this is our team. We know where we’re going. We’re staying here. This is who we’ve got.'” Buium believes this unity can set a new standard for the team moving forward, aiming for wins and contention. Forward Jake DeBrusk also highlighted the positive shift, scoring two goals in the recent win, adding, “It’s nice to see the puck going (in) the net, some plays are starting to happen and be able to finish.”

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Kings are preparing for the playoffs, with interim head coach D.J. Smith focused on finishing the season strong despite potential injuries. The Kings remain in a Western Conference wild-card spot.
