The United States Men's National Team faces a significant setback as star striker Patrick Agyemang has ruptured his Achilles tendon and will miss the upcoming World Cup.

Agyemang, who has scored six goals in 14 appearances for the USMNT, sustained the injury on Monday while playing for Derby in the English second-tier. He was visibly distressed as he was carried off the field.

The 25-year-old forward recently represented the United States in friendlies, scoring against Belgium. He was a key part of the CONCACAF Gold Cup team last summer.

Team USA, co-hosting the tournament, was drawn into a group with Paraguay, Australia, and a European qualifier. The U.S. is the highest-ranked team in its group.

The USMNT has a history of mixed success in the World Cup, reaching the Round of 16 in past tournaments. The final will be held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The U.S. opens its World Cup campaign on June 12 in Los Angeles against Paraguay.
