The Winnipeg Jets suffered a 6-1 defeat to the Boston Bruins Thursday night at TD Garden, unraveling their momentum after an 11-point homestand.
Boston, boasting the NHL’s best home record, capitalized on repeated Jets’ defensive breakdowns. David Pastrnak opened scoring late in the first period after Kyle Connor mishandled a clearance near his own net.
The collapse continued in the second: goaltender Connor Hellebuyck lost control of a dump-in behind his net, gifting Lukas Reichel an empty-netter in his Bruins debut. Viktor Arvidsson added another before intermission.
Pavel Zacha made it 4-0 early in the third. Jonathan Toews finally answered with a power-play deflection-his second goal in as many games after a two-month drought.
But Boston sealed the rout with tallies from Fraser Minten and Jonathan Aspirot. Hellebuyck allowed six goals on 28 shots; Jeremy Swayman stopped 22 of 23 for Boston.
The Jets now travel to Pittsburgh for a Saturday matinee against the Penguins.
