Anthropic, the artificial intelligence startup behind the Claude model, is weighing a new funding round that would value it at over $900 billion, according to Bloomberg News.
The company is entertaining offers at more than double its current valuation of $380 billion, which was set during a $30 billion funding round in February. Sources say the discussions are early and no offers have been accepted yet.
If successful, this would make Anthropic the world’s most valuable AI startup, surpassing rival OpenAI, which was valued at $852 billion in March.
The fundraising push comes ahead of a potential IPO that could launch as soon as October, according to the report. Anthropic had previously resisted investor proposals at $800 billion or more, even as major backers Alphabet's Google and Amazon announced multi-billion-dollar performance-based investments.
