Senior technical executives from Anthropic have arrived in Washington for critical negotiations with White House officials. The meetings aim to resolve a standoff that has taken the San Francisco startup’s most advanced artificial intelligence models offline.
The dispute originated when the Trump administration ordered Anthropic to restrict access to its latest models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, for all foreign nationals. In response to the regulatory pressure, the company disabled global access entirely rather than implementing selective geoblocking.
While virtual discussions began earlier in the week, the in-person talks mark a significant escalation in efforts to restore service. Anthropic, which has confidentially filed for an initial public offering, had previously withheld the Mythos model due to concerns over its potential hacking capabilities. The company recently released a public version called Fable, featuring enhanced cybersecurity safeguards, but the broader access ban remains in effect.
