Google is revamping its Gemini app with a major update announced at Google I/O 2026. The overhaul includes a new design language called Neural Expressive, bringing animations, new colors, typography, and enhanced haptic feedback. The Gemini Live voice mode is now integrated directly into the app, allowing seamless switching between text and voice interactions.
The centerpiece of the update is Gemini Spark, the company's push into agentic AI. Spark transforms Gemini from a simple text generator into an assistant that can take actions on your behalf, even when your device is off. Users can set recurring tasks, such as scanning credit card bills for hidden fees or summarizing meeting notes into polished Google Docs. All high-stakes actions require explicit user consent.
Gemini Spark is rolling out to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S. next week, with a macOS version planned for later this summer.
Another new feature is Daily Brief, an opt-in morning digest that accesses your Gmail and calendar to provide a prioritized task overview. It is available today for Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers in the U.S.
Finally, Google launched Gemini Omni, a multimodal video generation tool that combines text, images, and video inputs. It allows users to edit videos with conversational commands, apply templates, and even create custom AI avatars. Omni is rolling out globally to Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers.
