Elon Musk denied a Wall Street Journal report on Wednesday claiming his company, SpaceX, had shown a prototype of an AI-focused handset to investors.
"Utterly false," Musk stated on his social platform, X.
The report suggested the device was designed to run a proprietary operating system incorporating technology from Musk's other venture, xAI, alongside Qualcomm Snapdragon chips. It indicated the project was still in its early stages with no guarantee of production.
SpaceX has been investing heavily to diversify beyond its core launch and Starlink satellite operations, pursuing AI infrastructure and space-based computing. Musk had previously noted that a Starlink-integrated phone was "not out of the question" someday, though it would be fundamentally different from current smartphones. Neither SpaceX nor Qualcomm provided an immediate response to the initial inquiry.
