Nathan Aké has finalized his transfer to Fenerbahçe, leaving Manchester City after a dominant six-season stretch.

The 31-year-old Dutch defender joined City in 2020 for £41 million. Fenerbahçe secured the high-profile signing on July 3 after negotiations that began in early June, aiming to boost a squad that finished as league runners-up.

However, the transfer completely bypasses the club’s significant crypto operations. In 2021, Fenerbahçe generated over $31 million in revenue through its fan token, FB. Despite this, the Aké deal features no blockchain verification, no fan token bonuses, and no NFT releases.

This separation signals that even mature fan token ecosystems remain disconnected from core football business, challenging the original pitch that digital assets would embed deeply into major club operations.
