OpenAI is reportedly developing a family of AI-powered consumer devices, including a smart speaker and smart glasses. The company is expanding beyond its ChatGPT software into consumer hardware.
The first device, a smart speaker, is designed for context-aware responses, potentially automating tasks like grocery ordering and offering personalized advice. It is expected to launch by February 2027 with a price point between $200 and $300.
OpenAI has partnered with Jony Ive and recruited engineers from Apple's hardware division for this initiative. Smart glasses are also reportedly in development, though mass production is not anticipated until 2028.
