OpenAI has rolled out a major upgrade to ChatGPT's memory, called 'Dreaming V3,' deployed on June 4. This new architecture dramatically improves how the AI retains context, keeps conversations coherent over days or weeks, and filters out irrelevant information.

The system focuses on three key areas: freshness, ensuring the model uses the most recent data; continuity, to keep threads connected over time; and relevance, to surface only what matters for the current query. This marks a leap from the basic memory feature introduced in February 2024.

Initial access is for ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers in the United States, with a global rollout and free-tier support expected soon.

Users maintain full control. They can view, edit, or delete stored memories. For those wanting total privacy, temporary chat sessions ensure nothing is saved.
