Perplexity AI released its Comet browser on July 9, 2025, initially for Perplexity Max subscribers at $200 per month. Built on Chromium, it embeds conversational AI as the default search engine, enabling web page summarization, natural language navigation, and task management.
The next day, Perplexity announced a partnership with Coinbase to provide real-time crypto market data directly in the browser. Users can access prices, trading volumes, and trends without switching tabs, positioning Comet as an all-in-one tool for crypto traders.
Public access is scheduled for October 2, 2025, with Android and iOS versions planned for November 2025 and March 2026, respectively. Nvidia is among Perplexity's investors. Legal challenges exist: Amazon secured a court order in March 2026 restricting Comet's autonomous shopping features, and CNN has copyright disputes over content usage.
