Mira Murati, the former OpenAI executive, is now giving away powerful AI technology for free. Her startup, Thinking Machines Lab, has released its first model, Inkling.
The Inkling model has 975 billion parameters and can process text, images, audio, and video at the same time. It operates under the Apache 2.0 license, which allows anyone to use and modify the model. The company is also releasing a platform called Tinker to help developers customize it.
The lab was founded in February 2025 and has already raised $2 billion at a $12 billion valuation. Reports indicate its value could soon reach $50 billion.
While Inkling has no direct crypto component, its release expands possibilities for decentralized AI applications. Open models of this scale could increase demand for decentralized compute networks like Akash and Render. The model's license may also lead to specialized versions for areas like DeFi and smart contract analysis.
