Container image startup Minimus Inc. has announced the removal of the registration wall on its complete catalog of secure container images, making them freely accessible to developers.
The initiative, dubbed Minimus Community Edition, includes thousands of container images with near-zero known vulnerabilities. These images comply with various standards, such as Federal Information Processing Standards and Center for Internet Security guidelines, ensuring a robust security framework.
Co-founder and CEO Ben Bernstein emphasized that AI tools are rapidly uncovering software vulnerabilities, necessitating faster remediation efforts. By providing unhindered access to hardened images, developers can enhance security while integrating these resources into their workflows more seamlessly.
The free tier includes Minicli, a command-line tool for image discovery and migration. Developers can adopt standard images used in production without worrying about budget constraints or enterprise agreements.
Founded in October 2022 by industry veterans from Twistlock Ltd., Minimus aims to cut cloud software vulnerabilities by building images from the minimal software necessary for application performance. The company has secured $51 million in seed funding to bolster its mission.
A paid Enterprise Edition remains available for teams requiring more comprehensive service-level agreements and customized solutions.
