Amazon confirmed drone strikes have hit three of its data centers in the Middle East, causing significant outages. Two Amazon Web Services (AWS) facilities in the United Arab Emirates were directly struck, while a third in Bahrain was damaged by a nearby drone attack. The company stated these strikes caused structural damage, power disruptions, and water damage from fire suppression efforts.
Operations in the region are "significantly impaired," with customers reporting elevated error rates and degraded service availability. Amazon is working to restore services and repair physical damage, advising Middle East customers to back up data and consider migrating workloads to other regions due to the unpredictable operating environment.
Amazon shares saw a slight decline in early trading following the news.
