Iran fired ballistic missiles and drones toward Bahrain and Kuwait early Saturday, according to Bahrain’s government, which said the projectiles were intercepted. Manama called on Tehran to immediately cease attacks on Gulf neighbors, calling them a "serious escalation."
The U.S. military confirmed it shot down several Iranian missiles and drones aimed at the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf allies. In response, U.S. forces struck Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites on Qeshm Island and near Sirik.
Tehran condemned the U.S. strikes as a violation of the fragile ceasefire. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said it targeted the Ali Al Salem air base in Kuwait and the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet in Bahrain. The U.S. reported no personnel casualties.
The exchange comes as the Trump administration pushes Iran to negotiate an end to the war, which has strained the global economy and spiked energy prices. A tentative agreement to extend the 60-day ceasefire and restart nuclear talks reached last week remains unsigned, with President Trump calling for unspecified changes.
Meanwhile, fighting in Lebanon complicates broader peace efforts. Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon Saturday killed nine people, including three Lebanese soldiers. Israel said it targets Hezbollah, not the Lebanese military.
