Two skiers were caught in an avalanche in Kananaskis Country, west of Calgary. One individual was found unresponsive by responding search and rescue crews.

The incident occurred in the Nakiska area, approximately 100 kilometers west of Calgary. RCMP confirmed receiving a distress call around 12:49 p.m. Friday.

While one skier managed to escape the avalanche independently, the second was located in an unresponsive state. STARS Air Ambulance was alerted but later stood down.

Authorities noted that strong winds and recent snowfall have created a high avalanche danger rating in the region.
