A UN Women report reveals a devastating toll in Gaza, with an estimated average of 47 women and girls killed daily between October 2023 and December 2025. This brings the total to over 38,000 fatalities.
These figures represent more than half of the total recorded deaths in Gaza during the same period. The report emphasizes that the actual number is likely higher due to difficulties in recovering bodies and the collapse of reporting systems. Fatality peaks for women and children coincided with significant destruction of civilian infrastructure, including homes and shelters.
The war's impact extends beyond deaths, with nearly 11,000 women and girls expected to live with lifelong disabilities. Humanitarian aid remains limited, leading to severe shortages of essential supplies, including menstrual hygiene products.
The conflict has also drastically altered household structures. Over 58,600 households in Gaza are now led by women, a significant increase from previous years, placing additional burdens on them as they manage income, food, and care for families amidst widespread destruction.
UN Women calls for a full ceasefire compliance with international law, unimpeded humanitarian aid, and gender-responsive recovery efforts, stressing the critical role of women in response and rebuilding.
