Brazilian carrier GOL has announced direct flights between Rio de Janeiro and Lisbon, with service launching on 16 September 2026. The route will operate four return weekly flights using Airbus A330-900neo aircraft-five of which joined the fleet in March.
A second transatlantic route to Paris’s Charles de Gaulle Airport is set to begin in July 2026, though details remain pending. The move marks GOL’s strategic shift from regional operations to intercontinental expansion, leveraging its Rio Galeão hub.
The airline, currently reliant on Boeing 737 MAX for Latin American and southern U.S. routes, is prioritizing Lisbon due to high demand from Brazilian travelers. GOL also plans future links to New York’s JFK, contingent on fleet availability.
