Ecuador launched a two-week operation against drug traffickers on Sunday, backed by the United States. The offensive, announced by Interior Minister John Reimberg, comes as violence linked to cocaine gangs remains high. Nighttime curfews have been imposed in four coastal provinces: Guayas, Los Rios, Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas, and El Oro.

Around 35,000 soldiers, armored vehicles, and helicopters are being deployed across the country. "We're at war," Reimberg declared. "Don't take any risks, don’t go out, stay home."

While U.S. troops may not be directly engaged on Ecuadoran soil, joint operations have already occurred, including lethal strikes and the sinking of a narco sub near the northern border. The FBI plans to open an office in Quito to combat money laundering and corruption.
