Portuguese authorities have arrested Cédric Prizzon, a 42-year-old former French police officer, in connection with the killings of his former and current partners. Their bodies were discovered buried in Serra da Nogueira, Bragança.
Prizzon was stopped during a routine GNR roadside check on March 25 in Mêda, Guarda district, and initially detained for document forgery and illegal firearm possession. His two young children-aged 13 and 18 months-were found unharmed in the vehicle and placed into protective care.
French authorities had issued a missing persons alert after both women vanished from Aveyron, southern France, on March 21. The alarm was raised when neither showed up for work or school, and all contact ceased.
Prizzon’s eldest son reportedly tipped off investigators, leading them to the remote burial site over 150 kilometers from where he was apprehended. The suspect, unemployed and previously convicted of domestic violence, had lost custody of his children and once fled illegally to Spain with his eldest son in 2021.
The Montpellier public prosecutor’s office is leading the homicide investigation, with Toulouse gendarmerie officers expected to assist in Portugal.
