French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the ongoing energy crisis, exacerbated by the Iran war, should not prompt a lifting of sanctions against Moscow. He asserted that disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and soaring oil prices "in no way justify lifting the sanctions" imposed on Russia.

Macron also cautioned against underestimating Iran's military capabilities, noting that despite recent strikes, the country continues regional attacks. He urged US President Donald Trump to clarify objectives and the pace of operations.

The Group of Seven (G7) leaders convened to coordinate responses to the crisis. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route, remains a focal point of tension, impacting energy markets and supply chains for commodities like fertilizers.

In response to market disruptions, the International Energy Agency (IEA) announced the release of 400 million barrels from strategic reserves. France will contribute gradually, releasing up to 14.5 million barrels from its own reserves to help stabilize international prices.
