The 48-year-old had been on the run since January 2025, facing charges for a 2000 fatal shooting. During the raid, authorities found 20,000 euros in cash and three luxury watches. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the president of the Anti-Mafia Commission lauded the successful operation, emphasizing the state's commitment to combating organized crime. The Mazzarella clan is known for counterfeiting, and police have recently intensified efforts against the Neapolitan mafia.
