France has initiated broad investigations into human trafficking and financial fraud among associates of the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The probes follow the release of extensive files detailing his activities. Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau announced the investigations will examine publicly available material and complaints from child protection groups. One focus is on human trafficking, while another targets money laundering, corruption, and tax fraud.

The investigations aim to identify any French nationals potentially involved in sexual or financial offenses. Authorities are already scrutinizing former culture minister Jack Lang and his daughter for suspected tax fraud, alongside other cases involving alleged transfer of UN documents. The US Department of Justice documents indicate Epstein frequently visited Paris, where he owned property. This probe is considered critical as France is the only country outside the US where Epstein held property. Prosecutors acknowledge the task is immense, with the outcome uncertain.
