Germany is pushing for Washington’s authorization to manufacture American-made long-range Tomahawk missiles and advanced PAC-3 Patriot interceptors within its own borders. The request arrives just before the NATO summit in Ankara.
The initiative follows the Pentagon’s cancellation of a planned Tomahawk deployment to Germany in May 2026. Facing severe backlogs among US defense contractors due to ongoing global conflicts, Berlin views localized production as the most effective way to meet its immediate deterrence requirements.
The proposed deal directly aligns with Washington's stated goal of having European allies independently expand their defense industrial bases.
