Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen has rebuked U.S. President Donald Trump's characterization of the Arctic island as a "piece of ice." Nielsen urged NATO allies to unite in defending international law.
Trump, on social media, called Greenland a "big, poorly run, piece of ice!!!" Nielsen countered, stating, "We are not some piece of ice. We are a proud population of 57,000 people, working every single day as good global citizens in full respect for all our allies."

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of upholding the post-war geopolitical order, including the NATO alliance and international law, especially as these are currently being challenged.
This is not the first time Nielsen has addressed Trump's interest in Greenland. Previously, he stated "enough is enough" regarding Trump's threats of annexation, emphasizing that such discussions do not belong between allies and that Greenland is not for sale.

Nielsen also dismissed a social media post showing Greenland wrapped in an American flag, calling it disrespectful and stating that Greenland's future is not determined by such posts but by respect and international law.
Trump has previously expressed interest in acquiring Greenland, citing national security and strategic importance, and has not ruled out tariffs on countries that do not cooperate with such a deal. He first voiced this interest in 2019, calling it a "large real estate deal."
